Absalom: Fight Night! - A Case Study

Many members of the Spud Gun Studios team grew up reading 2000 AD comics; strips and series such as Thang’s Future Shocks, Strontium Dog and ABC Warriors played a big part in our childhoods!

That’s why we pitched creating an animated short, based on the 2000 AD character Detective Harry Absalom, to 2000 AD’s parent company, Rebellion. As soon as they gave us a resounding “yes!”, we got to work bringing everyone’s favourite demon-nicking copper to life.

We worked with original writer Gordon Rennie, and original artist Tiernan Trevallion, during pre-production in order to craft the story and style of this prequel to 2000 AD’s Absalom: Ghosts of London series.

We then cast and directed voice actors during the recording process, one of which being beloved British actor Melvyn Hayes of It Ain’t Half Hot Mum fame. We worked with animation studio Toonocracy to deliver final animation, after providing visual direction during the storyboarding and animatic phase of production.

The animation was published on the Mashed YouTube channel on November 17th, 2022.
